Who & Why
Hi! I’m Sena, the founder of WearGreen, an organization I created as part of my Girl Scout Gold Award project. Growing up traveling around the world inspired me to advocate for environmental sustainability so others can experience these natural wonders too.
My fascination with clothing began in middle school, but as I learned more about the fashion industry, I became especially interested in the impact of something we interact with every day: fast fashion.
I created WearGreen to make information about fast fashion clear, accessible, and actionable. My goal isn’t to tell people to stop enjoying fashion or shopping, but to show how small changes—rewearing, mindful media consumption, shopping secondhand, and thoughtful consumerism—can reduce clothing waste and its environmental impact.
Through WearGreen, I hope to help people understand the story behind what they wear and recognize that creating a more sustainable relationship with fashion can start right in our own closets.
Our Team
Josephine Aller
A professor in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, she is an aquatic ecologist who studies microbial communities at the interface of the seabed and overlying water and at the boundary of ocean surface waters and the overlying atmosphere. Both are hotspots of biogeochemical processes, and understanding microbial communities at both boundaries is essential for predicting how marine ecosystems and Earth’s climate system will respond to environmental change. In addition to her research and teaching activities, she has worked extensively with high school and undergraduate students to promote the next generation of scientists.
Sarah Hall
A Biology, animal behavior, and environmental science teacher at Huntington High School with a passion for conservation and environmental education. Her work extends beyond the classroom through her work and volunteering in habitat and species conservation at the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park, the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, and the WaterFront Center.
Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition
An environmental health and advocacy organization emphasizing prevention over adaptation. This non-profit has dedicated over 30 years to providing student research opportunities and support for breast cancer-diagnosed women. Organization leaders Karen Miller and Melanie Gabrell focus on the primary goal of expanding environmental health literacy and advocacy among young leaders.
